While the journey of an Ayyappa is a personal one, the charm of Sabarimala pilgrimage is in that these multiple journeys dovetail to one stream leading to the single goal of self-purification and realising one’s own divinity. The true essence of Sabarimala pilgrimage is in breaking the limitations of ego and liberate oneself. Once that is done, the Ayyappa will see the Lord not just in oneself but all those who are around him. It is not for nothing that he addresses all others as ‘’Swamy’’or ‘Ayyappa’’, it is because he sees the Lord in them. Now it is for the pilgrim to decide whether a true Ayyappa would expect another Ayyappa, who is as divine as he himself is, to clean up his refuse and garbage after he leaves.
